Moving a Mountain

by Don Hammonds
May - 2008

Many years ago, I was discussing the Bible with a man of God, and said, “I would like to see a mountain move.” He explained, “Oh, Don, He’s not referring to a literal mountain, but to a mountain of problems.” I thought about it a few seconds and said, “Then you believe we have a sycamine tree full of problems.” He did not reply, but I could tell I had made him angry.

I respected this man though, and that evening sitting and thinking about it, I wondered if I could be wrong. Almost instantly I heard, “I will move a mountain in the Elburz range.”I knew where that was because if the revolution had not taken place I would have spent a significant part of my life in Iran. I got out a map of Iran and studied the Elburz mountains, trying to decide which mountain would be moved. Probably Suleiman because it was named after Suleiman the Magnificent, who was a powerful Islamic leader. Also, this mountain was close to Mashad, which is a holy city to the Shia along with Zom. So I thought Suleiman would be cast into the Caspian Sea.

Recently, I’ve been receiving revelation on miracles and this came to mind. I thought “It’s Suleiman, isn’t it.” But I heard Demavend. This is a huge mountain being over 18,600 feet. It is visible in Teheran, the capitol of Iran. A vision began and I saw a mountain slowly moving toward the sea. The movement caused ground tremor and a deep rumble that could be heard and felt for many miles. This caused much consternation as it had become widely known and openly ridiculed that Jesus was going to move the mountain. It took days and many people came to see it. When the mountain reached the sea, it continued out over the water until it reached its resting place. Then it slowly sank into the water creating a big island.

Mark 11:23 says, “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”

Matthew 17:20 says, “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will be moved; and nothing will be impossible to you.”

The second choice here is much the best when one meditates on it. A cast mountain would create a tsunami that would kill tens of thousands and destroy much property. God is demonstrating His power, and also His love for the people of the area. Also a cast mountain might be written off as the result of an earthquake. Iran is on an actively seismic tectonic plate. There can be no natural explanation for a slowly moving mountain, and certainly not for one that moves out over the sea before settling in. It will be apparent to the whole world, God did this.

This has a profound effect on believers and non-believers alike. Millions come to the Lord. Those who don’t have no excuse. The faith of many will be strengthened exponentially and many miracles will begin to occur. Pray and believe.
